Can I Really Quit Smoking Cigarettes With An E-Cigarette?

To quit smoking isn’t easy. It’s a tough task that demands more willpower than most of us have. And though quit smoking devices litter the marketplace, hardcore smokers still struggle everyday to let go of their addictive habit.

However, a new contender has arrived. The e-cigarette looks and feels just like a regular cigarette, but it contains zero tobacco. Even the smoke is artificial. This means you’re inhaling harmless water vapor that has none of the harmful carcinogens found in tobacco smoke.

The basic e-cigarette is composed of four pieces: a liquid-nicotine cartridge available in different strengths and flavors; an atomizer that heats the nicotine into water vapor; a rechargeable lithium-ion battery; and an LED light cover that lights up in an orange color when the user inhales.

When you puff on a cartridge, the atomizer heats the vapor. This allows you to immediately receive a nicotine hit, versus having to wait, as is the case with quit smoking patches or gum. This attribute of the e-cigarette is a major advantage. Most smokers fail to quit just because they miss the sensation of inhaling smoke, not to mention the immediate award.

Plus cartridges come in different strengths. Full-flavored cartridges accommodate regular Newport smokers, whereas medium-flavored cartridges accommodate Newport light smokers. So can gradually reduce the strength until you’re literally smoking water vapor, as would be the case with a zero-nicotine cartridge.

Perhaps the greatest beauty of the e-cigarette as a stop smoking device is that you can take a puff whenever you want. With a regular cigarette, you have to keep puffing until you reach the butt. Since an e-cigarette is based on a rechargeable battery, you can puff whenever you want. So instead of smoking an entire cigarette after dinner, you could take one tiny puff to calm your nerves, and then take another puff perhaps 30-minutes or even an hour later. This attribute of the e-cigarette will especially serve you well because it’ll lead to you inhaling a lot less nicotine. In due time, you may even learn to go an entire day without a puff. And if you’re really lucky, you might even go the rest of your life without one.
